Torbay Barons travelled down to Plymouth to take part in the clubs first two games on Sunday 25th September against the Guildford Mavericks and Plymouth Mariners . What looked to be a rained out day, turned into the perfect baseball weather, with blue sky and plenty of sunshine.
The first game of the day was the Mavericks taking on the home team at Wilson Field in Plymouth, with the Mavericks finally overcoming the Mariners in a tight well played game, 4 - 1.
The second game of the day was the Torbay Barons first ever game as a team, and as could be expected, the new team had a really shaky start against the Mavericks, giving up plenty of walks and fumbling some simple plays, but still ended up scoring 5 runs during a 13 - 5 loss.
The final game of the day pitted the Plymouth Mariners against Torbay Barons. The Barons started the second game with a lot more confidence and took an early 3 - 0 lead. The pitching and fielding was much better, and a couple of good hits kept the Barons runs coming in, but the experience of the Mariners side started to tell and Plymouth eventually ran out 11 - 6 winners.
It was a good learning curve for the Barons and really useful to get some game time under the teams belts, and the club as a whole showed real potential for the future.
With two more games against Plymouth Mariners and Bristol Bats planned before the end of the year, the Barons are optomistic to get their first win before the 2012 season begins
