Stags opened their 2012 season with the usual protocol seeing the Town's Mayor pitching the first ball of the season. Pirates and Stags played out a typical season opener with errors dictating the day and apart from the first crushing innings, which saw the Stags give up 6 runs, the game was closely competitive though the Pirates proved more productive for the major part of the game. It was only in 6th inning that the Stags finally found their stride and begun to compete at their normal level. It was too little too late and despite achieving two shut-outs the early damage had been done and proved to much to recover from. The Stags won this fixture twice last year but with so many established players not available it was a decent performance considering 4 rookies
that took on the mantle.
The Stags are looking forward to a productive season in 2012 with a glut of new potential talent not seen at the Club for decades. So despite a patchy pre-season preparation we are hoping to gel very quickly and bring on the new talent. 6 players returned to the Club this year which should help bolster the Club towards a promising and progressive season.
