The NBL will consist of a 30 game schedule, spread over April to August. The NBL culminates with the National Baseball Championships (NBCs) in September.
"All indications are this will be a great NBL season as all of the teams are gearing up for an incredible run to the NBCs," said a spokesman for the BBF.
It all begins on opening day, with the national defending champions Southampton Mustangs vs. the London Mets on Sunday, 2 April 2017. Opening day will consist of a doubleheader with the first game starting at 12:00 and the action take place at Farnham Park (in Slough).
Representatives from the Mustangs and Mets had the following to say about Opening Day:
"We are very excited to return to Farnham park and kick off the season in style against what I am sure will be another strong Mets team. It has become a great rivalry over the last few years, and we hope to showcase the best British baseball has to offer to start the season." Ben Davis, Manager, Southampton Mustangs NBL.
"It's exciting to be starting the season off with such an important matchup. Last year was a season-long battle with the Mustangs, and we know they will be even harder to beat this year. We wish them, and everyone else luck this coming season. See you all between the lines." Jonathon Cramman, Manager, Mets NBL
"The Mets will look very different when we take the field in 2017. Some very important veteran players, and key people, from within our club have moved on. So on top of seeing what I hope is a great, competitive game of Baseball on opening day against a top opponent, I am excited to see some of our younger players get the opportunity to step up and fill some big shoes."- Drew Spencer, Chairman, London Mets Baseball & Softball Club
See you on opening day!
