The Herts Falcons travelled to Brighton on Sunday 11 June for the only game scheduled in the BBF’s National Baseball League, and pulled out a 9-8 win that left them only half a game behind the Jets at the bottom of the NBL standings.

HERTS FALCONS @ BRIGHTON JETS

Herts 9, Brighton 8

Herts got on the board first in the top of the third inning when a single from Moises Vasquez drove in Aaron Witter.  Andrew Fulford and Cristobal Hiche scored later in the inning to give the Falcons a 3-0 lead.

The Jets struck back in the bottom of the fourth inning.  First, a two-run home run from Perry Wilkinson gave the home team a much-needed morale boost.  Then Dan Edgoose walked, moved into scoring position on an error and came home on a single from Ryan Soan, after which Herts pitcher Zack Longboy walked in Soan and Daniel Whitton to give the home team a 5-3 lead at the end of the inning.

Back came the Falcons, however, with a five-run inning of their own in the top of the sixth.  An RBI single by Miguel Hector scored John Blose and Jamie Warren, then back-to-back RBI singles from Andrew Fulford and Moises Vasquez added two more runs to the Falcons’ score.  When Cristobal Hiche scored on an error in left field, the Falcons had an 8-5 lead.

But Brighton battled in their half of the inning to tie the game.  Harry O’Brien scored on an error as Kevin Hernandez reached first on a bunt.  Perry Wilkinson picked up another RBI, driving in Sebastian Molina.  And a sacrifice fly to centre field by Dan Edgoose brought in the tying run.

However, Cristobal Hiche scored the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth inning on a single by Moises Vasquez, and the Falcons held on to tighten things up at the bottom of the league standings.
