The Team UK coach-pitch baseball programme has announced its provisional squad selection for the 2018 Super Cup to be held on 1-3 June 2018.
Now in its eighth year, the Super Cup tournament is organised by the Czech Institute for Baseball Development (IBD), and will see 24 teams from across Europe playing three days of tournament baseball at the Tempo Titans Complex in Prague.
Team UK entered the competition for the first time last year and finished 17th in the final rankings and also scooped the Yellow Cup trophy in a consolation final against Lithuania.
Following a period of consultation with club coaches and the families of players, the provisional Team UK squad has been selected as follows:
The provisional Team UK squad will be added to in the coming weeks as the target roster size is in the region of 12-14 players. Final arrangements are in progress to add players from both London Mets and LYBL to the team. The final squad for the tournament will be confirmed around the middle of February.
Team UK players will get their first opportunity to train together at the upcoming Perfect Game Academy, which is being held on the weekend of 17-18 February in Cobham, Surrey.
Further practices will be organised on each of the three Bank Holiday Mondays in April and May at a venue to be advised.
Players will also be in action at the upcoming BBF Mix and Match tournament in April.
BBF-affiliated club coaches for the tour will be:
· Matt Crawshaw (Leicester Blue Sox)
· Jon Gulliver (Brighton Baseball)
· Steve Rollins (Leicester Blue Sox)
· Chris Stevenson (Brighton Baseball)
A Just Giving page has been set up to help with the costs of the tour. Donations are now open click here.
Amanda Kettle, Treasurer for the BBF, said, "we are in a good financial condition. Moreover, we need to consider the efforts and the fun impact the UK Team will have on youths to take part in playing internationally and represent our clubs. After careful consideration the British Baseball Federation (BBF) have decided to donate £600 towards Team UK coach-pitch baseball programme. We ask everyone to support the UK Team and we hope the players have great fun in CZ.'
NOTE: The above BBF donation comes from off balance sheet donations raised towards such programmes. It will not affect the BBF operating funds or budget.
At the time of writing, we have raised £570 + £600 (BBF donation above) = £1170, towards our target of £2,000.
Please donate what you can to help ensure our youngest baseball talent has the best possible chance of success at SuperCup 2018.
