Major League Baseball 4th July Home Run Derby at Hyde Park

Major League Baseball will be hosting a Fourth of July party, within the British Summer Time Hyde Park music festival site. On the agenda, a Home Run Derby featuring former stars from the Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers. 

Charlie Hill, Managing Director of MLB Europe, said: “This represents an exciting statement of intent to grow Major League Baseball in Europe.  Hyde Park is the perfect location to bring a flavour of our game to London, with players from two of the most popular teams in the sport – the Red Sox and the Dodgers – set to provide a night of big hitting on the Main Stage.”

The event is free, and is called MLB Battlegrounds which will run from 5.00-10.00 pm on American Independence Day, and will conclude with a Home Run Derby on the Main Stage with former MLB players Carlos Pena, Cliff Floyd and Shawn Green. Also, there will be local stars from our BBF leagues, US women's stars and other UK sports stars. 

The Home Run Derby structure will include consist of participants trying to hit the most home runs against the time clock.

The British Baseball Federation will be in attendance and represented at the event by members of GB Baseball, other BBF volunteers and officials.

"We look forward to everyone involved in British Baseball coming out and supporting Major League Baseball, as they put on a show for everyone to enjoy on the 4th July at Hyde Park. So, stop by, say hello and enjoy a fun, festive family night of baseball at Hyde Park. " said a BBF official. 

British Summer Time Event Director Jim King said: “We're delighted to welcome MLB to Barclaycard presents British Summer Time Hyde Park for what is set up to be the best 4th July party in London this summer.  As a huge fan of baseball, it's going to be incredible to see the batters hit home runs from the Great Oak Stage.”
