Four National Baseball League teams – the London Mets, London Capitals, Essex Arrows and Herts Falcons – gathered at the Falcons’ home ground in Hemel Hempstead on Sunday 21 May to play against each other, and it was the Mets and Arrows who prospered with doubleheader sweeps.

The London Capitals pulled off something of an upset by splitting their doubleheader with the front-running Southampton Mustangs on Sunday 14 May in the BBF’s National Baseball League, and Southampton has been pulled back towards the chasing pack as a result.

The Herts Falcons travelled to the south coast to take on the Southampton Mustangs but Game One of the doubleheader was called in the bottom of the sixth in bizarre cirumstances, with a dispute over an alleged ineligible player resulting in the game being played under protest.

Ted Gerrard-Thesingh, a massive presence in British baseball for more than 30 years, died peacefully at Worcestershire Royal Hospital on 18 March, aged 78, surrounded by his family after a brave battle against a long illness.
