Youngsters in Leicester will soon be able to try out the sport of baseball – and then play for brand new youth baseball teams – thanks to a National Lottery-funded project.
Twelve teams met on 10-11 September to play out the 2011 National Baseball Championships. Winners were decided in all four senior leagues, with the Southern Nationals lifting the NBL trophy.

The 2011 Champions of British baseball have been crowned, with the Southern Nationals stunning the NBL, Liverpool taking AAA honours, and Bolton and Cambridge winning the AA and A leagues respectively.
On Sunday 4 September, third and fourth-placed teams from the AA North and Midlands divisions took part in playoffs, hosted in Manchester, to earn the right to play in the Single-A Final at the National Baseball Championships.
Bolton Robots of Doom reached the AA Final via victories over Nottingham and Milton Keynes in Midlands/North playoffs held in Nottingham on 4 September.
